More than 150 volunteers from places such as Ridgefield, Bogota, Ridgewood and Passaic joined the WeLoveU Foundation in the effort. The activity was part of WeLoveU’s Clean WORLD Movement, a worldwide effort to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
Participants grabbed gloves, rakes and garbage pickers and divided into smaller groups, each focusing on one section of the one-mile stretch of Wolf Creek. The volunteers pruned trees and collected debris, rusted pipes, dead branches and thorn bushes.
“The efforts of the volunteers of the WeLoveU Foundation that I witnessed today are extremely inspiring and will motivate Ridgefield residents to mobilize and take action in their own community,” said Ridgefield Councilman James Kontolios, who took part in the effort.
Ridgefield Recycling Coordinator Mildred Rojas worked with the volunteers.
Foundation spokesperson Rebecca Parker said, “By educating and encouraging a community of volunteers, we believe the efforts put into our environment today will benefit those who will come in the future.”
