Open to moms of children ages zero to six, MOPS provides encouragement, support, teaching and friendships in a relaxed atmosphere of caring, sharing and fun. In these relationships, moms find answers to their everyday dilemmas and discover a safe place to explore and discuss life.

The program averages 30 moms each month. They are from Hasbrouck Heights, Lodi, Garfield, Hackensack, Saddle Brook, Wayne, Rutherford and Rochelle Park, but it is open to residents of Bergen and Passaic counties. In addition, there are Friday morning get-togethers and monthly outings.

“Preschool moms are looking to connect with other moms who are in the same stage of life they are in. They love MOPS because it is like a mommy time out for them,” said Clifton resident Jane Sparling, the program coordinator.

“They are able to hear from other moms who have the same struggles and concerns, enjoy the camaraderie and appreciate the time to have some coffee and snacks with their adult conversation.”

MOPS started in Colorado in the early 1970s and incorporated in 1981. Today there are thousands of local MOPS groups across the U.S. and in almost 40 countries internationally.
