MOONACHIE, N.J. -- A public scoping meeting about flood risk reduction measures in the meadowlands takes place Wednesday, July 6 in Moonachie from 6-8 p.m.

Discussed will be,

  • Little Ferry
  • Moonachie
  • Carlstadt
  • Teterboro
  • South Hackensack

To obtain a copy of the Draft Public Scoping Document or for more information see www.rbd-meadowlands.nj.gov.

A design concept for the Meadowlands area was selected in 2014 as a winner of Department of Housing and Urban Development's Rebuild by Design competition.

HUD has since allocated $150 million towards the design and construction of a solution that will reduce flooding risks and enhance resiliency in this area.

Three build alternatives to reduce the flood risk are being examined, according to the scoping draft,

  • Alternative 1 will analyze the use of levees, berms, barriers, or floodwalls.
  • Alternative 2 will analyze the impacts of substantial drainage improvements achieved through a series of local projects.
  • Alternative 3, a hybrid of Alternatives 1 and 2, will analyze the impacts of blending new infrastructure and drainage improvements.

New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection welcomes the public's input and comments will be accepted until July 21.

To submit comments, attend the meeting. Email rbd-meadowlands@dep.nj.gov or mail NJDEP, Office of Flood Hazard, Risk Reduction, Attn: Mr. Dennis Reinknecht, RBD Program Manager, 501 East State Street, Mail Code 501-01A, PO Box 420, Trenton, NJ 08625-0420.

The meeting will be held at the Robert L. Craig School Gymnasium , 20 West Park St., Moonachie.
