HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. – A Hasbrouck Heights dog has been named to Milk-Bone’s 2017 list of “Dogs Who Changed the World.”
Axle, a Golden Retriever, assists children while they practice reading and comforts people who are sick and have differing abilities.
He is one of 15 dogs to be named to this year’s list.
Axle and Liberty travel together to schools, hospitals and nursing homes to raise awareness for the Mickey’s Kids Charitable Foundation – a Hackensack-based charity that sponsors service dogs.
Mickey's Kids was founded by Tom and Michele Meli — a teacher at Glen Rock's Academy of Our Lady — after their late dog, Mickey.
"These hero dogs help people live fuller and richer lives by going above and beyond the call of doggy duty to help them navigate their world," Milk-Bone stated in a news release.
