The 577-person menorah was 65 feet wide and 45 feet and two inches tall.

A youth organization held the world record with a 250-person menorah, but BPY is the first school to break the record with nearly 500 participants.

Paramus and New Jersey officials gathered at the school to celebrate.

"I am happy to be here not as a senator," Senator Loretta Weinberg said. "I feel more like I am here with a whole bunch of surrogate grandchildren celebrating a happy occasion, which our communities and country can use a lot more of."
