RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- Ridgefield Park Boy Scout Tim Weir of Troop 5 used pavers and rose bushes donated by Rose Gardens by Michael Inc., and hydrangea and boxwood bushes donated by Rosedale Nurseries to create an attractive space next to the Reformed Presbyterian Church. "I saw the water damage in the basement, and I wanted to help out with this landscaping project that would direct the water away from the building," the lifelong parishioner said.
"I have spent almost every Sunday of my life at this church, and the truths I have learned help me in my life every day."
Volunteers between ages 3 and 65 from Troop 5 and members of the church helped Weir with the more then 200-man hour project.
Elder Glen Chin, a landscape architect, mentored Weir during the course of the project.
Weir will attend Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pa. and plans to study mechanical engineering.
“Scouting has taught me the importance of communication, hard work and perseverance," he said.
