"It's not the birthday anyone hoped for but Matthew is doing what he needs to do," said Kimberly Potenzone Aliano, his twin sister's Godmother.

"Please continue to send positive vibes and pray for Matthew as he continues to heal," she added

Matthew's twin sister Arianna and two of his three other siblings were also in the Toyota Sienna, that was hit from behind on Ratzer Road, causing a multi-car pile-up.

Matthew was unconscious at the scene and needed brain surgery. No one else was seriously injured.

The Polifonte family is grateful for the support from the community that's been coming through in the way of outreach, meals, and donations, Aliano told Daily Voice.

Almost $45,000 has been raised since the GoFundMe page was launched on Friday.

Cards or notes to the family can be sent to: North Jersey pediatric dentistry, C/O Matthew Polifonte, 9 Furler St., Totowa, NJ 07512.
