HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. -- John "Hans" G. Goehrig, a Hasbrouck Heights resident, formerly of Jersey City, died Tuesday, Feb. 2. He was 75.An Army veteran, Goehrig was an auto mechanic and owner of various gas stations. He was an executive driver for Merck Medco in Montvale, before retiring.
He coached for the junior football league and the girls softball league, was a past president of the Parents of Athletes and was an advocate for pedestrian safety.
Goehrig was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, loved boating on Lake George and was a car enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arlene (Burns) Goehrig; children Donna Dussault of Lodi, Suzanne White and her husband Thomas of Hasbrouck Heights, Wendy Purcell and her husband James of North Haledon, Teri-Beth Goehrig of Hackensack, and John Goehrig Jr. and his wife Elena of Ramsey; brother William Goehrig of Jersey City; and grandchildren Danielle, Tony, Dylan, Jennifer, Jack, Kevin, Kyle, Harrison, Andrew, Claudia and Grant.
Goehrig was predeceased by his parents, William and Elise Goehrig.
Visiting hours were scheduled from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at Costa Memorial Home, Boulevard and Central Avenue, Hasbrouck Heights. The funeral will be from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 5, with a 10:30 a.m. funeral service at the First Reformed Church in Hasbrouck Heights. The Rev. Debbie Rundecker will officiate. Private cremation will follow.
