HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. -- Robert Joseph Wilk -- a Roxbury, New York, resident, formerly of Hasbrouck Heights -- died on Monday, June 13. He was 84.
Before retiring, Wilk worked for Public Service Electric & Gas Company for 42 years as a lineman, troubleshooter and pole inspector. He was a volunteer fireman for the Hasbrouck Heights Fire Department for 25 years, serving as captain and mechanic for Company 1. Wilk also served on the Emergency Truck and the Ambulance Squad and was a member of the Hasbrouck Heights Firemen's Relief Association and a life member of the New Jersey State Firemen Association.
Wilk also served Hasbrouck Heights as a police marshal, and he was an active member of the Department's Competition Pistol Team. He was in the Naval Reserves for eight years, serving on eight different naval ships. He was a former Boy Scout leader for Hasbrouck Heights' Troop 68 and a member of the Roxbury Senior Citizens. He was also a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Sacred Heart Parish, where he served as an usher.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wilk; children Kenneth and his wife Sally, Robert and his wife Mary Beth, Thomas and his wife Mary Jo, and James and his wife Karen; grandchildren Robert Patrick and his wife Margot, Sean, Nicole, Tara, Elizabeth, Danielle, Dylan, Kurtis, Tracy, Emma and Timothy; and sister-in-law Palma Kmetz.
Wilk was predeceased by his son, Russell Wilk, and his sister, Jane Oswald.
Visiting hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at Costa Memorial Home, Boulevard and Central Ave., in Hasbrouck Height. The funeral will be from the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Thursday, with an 11 a.m. funeral liturgy from Corpus Christi Church, in Hasbrouck Heights. Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, in Lodi.
