A special Sunday luncheon for the Moonachie First Aid Squad

SHOUT OUT: After saving many of those caught in the Hurricane Sandy flood, members of the Moonachie First Aid & Rescue Squad returned to headquarters to find that they were in serious trouble themselves. Now they’re the ones who need help.

Not only were their vehicles damaged and headquarters destroyed. Many members lost personal belongings, including cars and homes. Still, they have often been the first on the scene whenever help is needed anywhere in the area. When two cars crashed near MetLife Stadium on Route 3 the other night, two Moonachie rigs showed up.

Bazzarelli Restaurant, Moonachie

So mark your calender: A very special five-course venison luncheon to help raise money for the squad is scheduled for Sunday, April, 7.

The “Hunters for Hope” event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with lunch promptly served at noon. It also features a 50/50 raffle, tricky tray and “buckets of beer,” along with discounted bottles of wine.

The cost is $45 per person (gratuity and tax included). SEE MORE BELOW

Bazzarelli’s itself was shuttered by the storm for two months. But the Moonachie Road institution has been back in business, and thriving, since the beginning of the year.

Moonachie First Aid & Rescue members met by NJ Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno

At the same time, cash donations would be huge, so that the squad can begin to repair and replace the infrastructure that was lost.

“We’re also looking for people who know electrical, plumbing, construction, or painting companies that are willing to help,” squad member Nicole Dirienzo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT. “Or people willing to volunteer their time to help us rebuild.

“Honestly, anything people can offer would be a big help right now.”

If you have supplies, squad members can pick them up, she said.

Or send them to:
