HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. – A judge ordered an unemployed Wood-Ridge couple held on $250,000 bail each after investigators said they caught them with nearly 20 pounds of heroin worth roughly $540,000 outside a Hasbrouck Heights pharmacy.
Drug investigators moved in on Luis Lopez, 21, and Alida Aguilera, 22, after they parked at the Rite Aid on Boulevard, Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Tuesday night.
Inside the vehicle, detectives four kilograms of heroin, Grewal said.
A search of their Westmont Drive home turned up five more kilos, he said.
Both were charged with various drug possession and distribution counts.
Participating in the investigation with Grewal’s detectives were members of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Jersey and New York offices and Hasbrouck Heights police, the prosecutor said.
Oct. 15 arraignments were scheduled in Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
