Boy, 2, drowns in Ridgefield Park backyard pool

A 2-year-old boy drowned in a Ridgefield Park backyard swimming pool last night.

Officers responding to the Overpeck Avenue call found a man administering CPR, which was continued by police and members of the Ridgefield Park Ambulance Corps, Capt. Daniel Hippe said this morning.

Village police and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office were investigating what Hippe said “appears to be a tragic accident.”

“The child was being supervised by an adult family friend at the time of the incident,” he said.

Evidence was collected by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification.

Police Chief Edward Rose praised the efforts of all who tried to revive the boy and expressed his sympathy for “both families who have been affected by this terrible tragedy.”
