Witnesses who summoned police said that Henry Adamson, 51, of Paterson, hit two other area houses before he emerged from a third residence, on Piaget Avenue, early Monday evening.

Seeing the arriving officers, Adamson fled out the back door, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said Thursday.

Other officers who were part of a perimeter grabbed him, the lieutenant said.

"The witnesses in this case did a great job in relaying information to the police," Bracken said. "Without their observations and assistance, this arrest would not have been possible."

Adamson was charged with burglary, attempted burglary, criminal mischief and theft.

A judge ordered him held in the Passaic County Jail, where he remained on Thursday.
