Emerson Police Chief Michael Saudino was officially sworn in as president of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association on Saturday night, drawing a huge gathering to the Fiesta in Wood-Ridge.
Saudino holds a unique position: He is among a few candidates hoping to unseat Leo McGuire as county sheriff.
An Emerson officer for 37 years, Saudino spent the past eight as chief. His department’s high-profile cases have included the August 27 disappearance of 42-year-old Liza Murphy, who still hasn’t been found.
Saudino also drew admiration for arranging a 20-car police escort to Delaware to escort home the remains of a 20-year-old soldier killed in Iraq. Saudino drove the family himself in his RV.
