A 911 call alerted officers to the car being driven erratically by Israel Perez of Jersey City on Monday afternoon — his 53rd birthday.

Officer Bradley Dussault quickly spotted and stopped the vehicle on Passaic Avenue just east of Terrace Avenue.

He found Perez behind the wheel with a woman and the youngsters — one his, the other the woman’s — as passengers, Detective Sgt. Michael Colaneri Jr. told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

Smelling alcohol on Perez’s breath, Dussault had him take a field sobriety test, which Colaneri said he failed. The officer then arrested Perez and had the vehicle impounded. The state Division of Child Protection and Permanency was also alerted.

After a breath test showed a blood alcohol reading of .23, Perez was charged not only with DWI with minors present and careless driving but also two counts of child endangerment, Colaneri said.
