Moonachie Police: Costco Driver Purposely Hits Parking Lot Pedestrian

MOONACHIE, N.J. -- Angered that a man pushing a shopping cart at the Teterboro Costco wasn't moving fast enough, a Maywood driver struck him with his car -- twice -- before taking off, authorities said.

The 32-year-old victim told police he was pushing the cart back to his car when Fabian Barrios, 41, "began blowing the horn in an attempt to get him to move," Detective Sgt. Anthony Fugnitti said Monday.

"The victim continued to walk and Barrios struck him with the vehicle in the back of his legs," Fugnitti said. "The victim began yelling at Barrios who struck him a second time causing to fall down."

Although Barrios fled, the victim got a license plate number, the sergeant said.

The victim was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, he said.

Detective Sgt. James McNeice tracked down Barrios, who was charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and released pending a court hearing after posting bail.

Police also issued him a traffic summons, Fugnitti said.
