MOONACHIE, N.J. -- Moonachie police made their 47th and 48th arrests of the year in Teterboro this year.

Officer Scott Lemongello smelled marijuana after stopping a vehicle on Green Street on Thursday, Detective Sgt. Anthony Fugnitti said Tuesday.

Asked if he had pot, 30-year-old Fabrizio German-Santana admitted that he did, Fugnitti said.

German-Santana was released on court summonses charging him with drug possession in a motor vehicle and not having a valid driver's license.

The 48th Teterboro arrest occurred Monday, when Officers John Bussanich and Kelly Ricardo picked up an accused shoplifter detained by security.

Krystall Candice Cox, 28, of Clifton was stopped in the Walmart parking lot with a shopping cart full of items worth $486, Fugnitti said.

She was also carrying two crack pipes and a hypodermic needle, he said.

Cox was released on summonses charging her with shoplifting and possessing drug paraphernalia.

Moonachie police made 45 Teterboro arrests all of last year.

Before Walmart and Costco opened in Teterboro, Moonachie police averaged seven to 14 arrests a year out of the southern end of the tiny borough. Staffing is a huge issue , all agree.
