"Her car was crossing Broadway/Route 4 through the cut-through when the Jeep T-boned her and pushed her onto the sidewalk and into the building, totaling the car and damaging the building," Police Chief Michael Foligno said.

"He kept going west on Broadway -- without the license plate," said Foligno, who raced to the scene.

"We ran the plate, called ahead and our friends in Paterson stopped the car," he said.

Elmwood Park police took custody of the driver moments later, the chief told Daily Voice.

The victim, meanwhile, had on an oxygen mask -- perhaps provided by someone who works in the building where the crash occurred just before 2:30 p.m. -- when an ambulance arrived, a witness told Daily Voice.

She was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center with a serious head injury, Foligno said.Investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Sheriff's Office rushed to join their colleagues at the scene.

Broadway/Route 4 remained closed in the immediate area.
