RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- Ridgefield Park police tracked down two 19-year-old Hudson County men in a wild road-rage incident that sent a brand new SUV flying into a house, injuring a 94-year-old resident.

Angel Feliz of Guttenberg was charged with assault by auto and Michael S. Vivar of North Bergen with hindering apprehension by providing aid, Lt. Joseph Rella said.

Traffic summonses were also being prepared against Felix, he said Wednesday morning.

Feliz wasn't difficult for police to find: The new white Mercedes SUV, driven off a nearby car dealer's lot just moments earlier, had temporary tags.

"It's very fortunate no pedestrians struck were or fatalities resulted," Rella said.

It all began with Vivar driving Feliz to the dealership.

Around 5 p.m., the SUV and pickup truck got involved in a minor crash on Route 46, Rella said.

The SUV cut across the median onto Ridgefield Avenue, with the pickup driver in pursuit, the lieutenant said. Vivar was behind them.

When they reached the T at Brewster Avenue, the SUV flew through both a row of bushes and a porch support pillar, severely damaging the front of the house, he said.

The car caught fire and Feliz bailed out, Rella said.

Vivar, who'd driven him to the dealership, was following when the events unfolded, the lieutenant said. He picked up Feliz and they took off, he said.

An elderly woman sitting inside sustained a leg injury and was taken to Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck for treatment, the lieutenant said.

The pickup truck, which was toting a new door, hit a fence at the house next door, Rella said. The driver was treated at the scene for a cut on his hand, he said.
