RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- A Ridgefield Park police officer cut off an accused burglar carrying a baseball bat and a bottle of booze during a brief chase that ended in a courtyard behind an apartment complex.

Officer Brian Lyons took Bruce Knapp Jr., 27, of the village into custody Saturday on Teaneck Road, Lt. Joseph Rella said Monday morning.

Knapp had just committed a burglary at RP Liquor & Deli down the street, Rella said.

He was being held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, resisting arrest, weapons possession, theft, trespassing, criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
