Officer Dale Madan was checking out the activated alarm at C&A Marketing on Bergen Turnpike just after 10 p.m. Sunday when he saw a car "that appeared out of place for the time of day as well as its location," Lt. Joseph Rella said Wednesday afternoon.

He radioed ahead, and Sgt. Justin Tress stopped the vehicle moments later.

Officers spotted the high-end electronics in the car while talking with its two occupants Rella said.

One of the them, 28-year-old Thomas L. Gustafson of Port Jervis, N.Y., previously did subcontracting work for the business and "had knowledge of the layout of the company, as well as knowledge on how to gain access to the building and what inventory was inside," the lieutenant said.

Gustafson and his companion, Joseph Laffey, 39, of Newburgh, N.Y., were ordered held on $50,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail, charged with burglary, theft, criminal trespassing and receiving stolen property.

Gustafson was also carrying drug paraphernalia, for which he was also charged, Rella said.
