Capt. William Flannelly was walking the Lexington Avenue area around 1:50 p.m. when he saw movement in the garage, Detective Sgt. Jim DePreta told Daily Voice.

Inside, he found 60-year-old Theodore Sutton of Garfield, the sergeant said.

Sutton, who records show has an extensive criminal history, "later admitted to detectives that he planned to steal landscaping equipment and tools from the garage," DePreta said.

A judge ordered Sutton held in the Bergen County Jail pending a bail hearing on charges of burglary, criminal attempt and possession of burglary tools.
