A POLICE CHIEF WRITES: I am calling for our elected officials to step up to the plate and show their support for law enforcement through this country.

The sound of silence has been deafening and the criminal element has interrupted that silence to heighten the hostility toward law enforcement.

It is not only the uniformed officer being targeted but reports have been filed of off-duty and retired officers in their private vehicles being followed and in some cases approached with words and actions signifying the intention to do harm to the officers.

Our elected officials, from a local council person to the President of these United States, MUST have the courage to stand side-by-side with the men and women in blue to end the anti-police sentiment in this country and defend law enforcement officers for who they are: good, honorable people dedicated to their profession of helping others while working to take the criminal element off the street — thus making it safe for ALL people to go about our lives and enjoy the freedoms of this country that we were ALL born with.
