A neighbor was holding the victim at the pool's edge when, Police Chief David Murphy said, he and Officer William Christopher arrived at  the Carriage Lane call just before 4 p.m.

Murphy said he and Christopher "pulled the victim from the pool and confirmed him to be in cardiac arrest," he said.

Sgt. Michael DeMaio and Officer Ryan Noon then administered an AED and began CPR. Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corp and Valley Hospital ALS arrived soon after and took over.

The victim was believed in critical condition when taken to The Valley Hospital, responders at the scene said.

Detective Sgts. Joseph Soto and Michael Ragucci assisted, along with Wyckoff firefighters, the chief said.
