I was a young police reporter, in my 20s, still wet behind the ears, when Al Della Fave, equally new to his job, trusted me with some good stories about the New Jersey State Police.
As time passed, and hostility grew between the NJSP and area media, my relationship with Al remained strong. He always was, and is, a man of his word. And he will not spin you a fantasy tale just to make you go away.
He’s a rarity in this day and age: A man’s man, a standup guy, someone who says what he means and means what he says. A good guy, with a good heart.
There isn’t enough gratitude in my entire being to thank him appropriately.
So, instead, I’m using my site to salute the man who went from civilian press information officer to Major Al Della Fave over the course of the last quarter-century.
And I am formally taking the opportunity to say: Thanks, Al. You are still my hero.
