The bond would upgrade the heating and ventilation systems in the district's elementary schools and Junior/Senior High School.
If the issue passes, the district will pay $4.4. million towards the upgrades, with an additional $2.3 million coming from the state Department of education through a Regular Operating District grant.
The tax impact on residents would break down to an added $70 a year, or $5.87 per month," which BOE President Joe Samperi believes is a great deal.
"This is not a lot of money to provide our children with a better air quality and learning environment for years to come," Samperi told Daily Voice.
The work to be done on each school is as follows:
Lincoln and Euclid Elementary Schools
- New rooftop energy recovery ventilator unit
- New ductwork, registers and grilles
- New direct digital controls tied into building management system
- All classrooms shall be code compliant for ventilation
- Proper monitoring and energy conservation of all equipment
Hasbrouck Heights Junior/Senior High School
- New high performance condensing hot water boilers
- New hot water piping
- New unit ventilators and panel radiators
- New heating & ventilation units in old gym
- New direct digital controls tied into building management system
- All classrooms shall be code compliant for ventilation
- Proper monitoring and energy conservation of all equipment
If the issue passes, work on the schools will begin in the summer of 2017.
