Wood-Ridge, Hasbrouck Heights Prepare For MFL Playoff Action

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. -- Cross-divisional games in each age division will determine who makes the Meadowlands Football League playoffs this weekend as Saddle Brook, Wood-Ridge, New Milford, Carlstadt/East Rutherford and Harrison all have team’s playing with their season’s on the line. Two Saddle Brooks teams are in elimination games against Rutherford.

Here's a look at the match ups, and how this weekend’s games impact the playoff race:

Pee Wee Division

North: Three of the four teams have already locked their playoff positions. Division winner New Milford’s (6-1) opponent will be either Wood-Ridge (2-5) or Saddle Brook (2-5), as they battle for the final spot. Saddle Brook gets in with a win over Rutherford (6-1) or a Wood-Ridge loss to Lyndhurst (7-0). Elmwood Park (5-2) will face red-hot Hasbrouck Heights (3-4) team, which has pitched two shutouts during their recent three game winning streak.

South: Division winner Lyndhurst (7-0) will battle either Carlstadt/East Rutherford or Harrison, both 3-4, depending on the outcome of Saturday’s games. Carlstadt/East Rutherford hosts Elmwood Park, while Harrison hosts Hasbrouck Heights. Carlstadt/East Rutherford has the tie-breaker advantage.

Junior Division

North: Manchester (6-1) needs a win over North Arlington (1-6) to clinch the division title over Hasbrouck Heights (6-1). Elmwood Park sits in third at 5-2, Saddle Brook or Wood-Ridge, both of whom are 3-4, need wins to advance . Saddle Brook gets Rutherford (6-1) while Wood-Ridge gets Lyndhurst (3-4) .

South: Playoff positions are set for next weekend. Division winner Rutherford (6-1) will play Lyndhurst (3-4) while North Arlington (5-2) will play Carlstadt/East Rutherford (3-4).

Senior Division

North: Manchester (7-0) is the division winner as a result of its win two weeks ago against Hasbrouck Heights (6-1). Heights draws Wood-Ridge (4-3) in the first round, while Manchester gets either Elmwood Park (2-5) and New Milford (2-5).

South: The teams are set, the match-ups are not. Carlstadt/East Rutherford is 6-1 and the division champ. Rutherford, Harrison and Lyndhurst are all 4-3, and in the playoffs, but who finishes in which spot will be determined on Saturday.

Opening round playoff games will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, in Hasbrouck Heights and Rutherford, and Sunday, November 6, in New Milford and North Arlington.

The following week, games move to Lyndhurst and Saddle Brook before the Super Bowl on Nov. 19 in Lyndhurst.
