WOOD-RIDGE, N.J. -- Michael Andrew Zabchin, Sr., of Wood-Ridge and formerly of Passaic, died Friday, Aug 19. He was 93.
Born Oct. 31, 1922., in Middleport, Pa, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1939-45 and was a first class petty officer who served on the USS American Legion in the Battle of Guadalcanal.
After the war, he was a sheet metal estimator, a mechanic and retired as a supervisor for the United Control Equipment Corp. in Paterson.
He was the husband of 68 years to Wanda T. (nee Czekalski) Zabchin; father of Michele Mangione and her husband Robert and the late Michael Andrew Zabchin, Jr.; brother of the late John and George Zabchin; grandfather of Michael Mangione and his wife Chrissy, Elena Mangione and Robert Mangione and his wife Claire; and great-grandfather of Nicolas, Matthew, Elliana, Anderson and Julianna.
There will be a funeral at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Costa Memorial Home, Boulevard and Central Avenue, Hasbrouck Heights. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
