MOONACHIE, N.J. -- Michael J. Formisano, a resident of Hillsborough and formerly of Moonachie, died Sunday, April 17. He was 90.
Prior to retirement, he was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Jersey City, where he received numerous citations for exemplary service, twice for heroism. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Anna; step-son, Robert Pettinato and his wife Josephine of Somerset.; grandchildren Karen and Thomas Cumello of Branchburg and Kim and Frank Perrone of Neshanic Station; great-grandchildren Marisa, Alexa, Matthew and Gabriella; and nephews Ronnie, Anthony, Steven and Thomas.
He was predeceased by Lucille Naples.
The funeral will begin at 8:45 a.m. Thursday at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Service, 397 Union St., Hackensack. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 31 Chamberlain Ave., Little Ferry. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
