"No agenda or speeches -- just a chance to ask questions and voice concerns," Police Chief Michael Colaneri Sr. said.

The majority of contacts the public has with law enforcement comes during emergencies or emotional situations -- not always the best times for relationship-building, the chief said.

"Coffee With A Cop" is a national initiative supported by the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

It removes any barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one conversation -- "one cup at a time,” Colaneri said.

"The coffee and sweets are free, [and] the conversation is informal and informative," the chief said.
