Officer John Andronaco stopped 31-year-old Jamie Costa on Route 46 a week ago Friday for having a headlight out and no front license plate on his Vollkswagen Golf.

Costa, who had a fresh track mark on his arm, refused consent to search the car, Detective Ronald Klein Jr. told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Backup K-9 Officer Ronald Callahan and his partner, Laszlo, arrived moments later, and the dog indicated the presence of contraband on the passenger-side door, he said.

Costa was released on a summons and the vehicle was impounded.

After obtaining the search warrant on Tuesday, detectives found the drugs and needles, Klein said.

Costa posted $20,000 bail on charges of possessing both and failing to surrender drugs to police after turning himself in on Thursday.
